Not All Medicare Enrollees Are Continuing Treatment For Opioid Use Disorder

On February 12, 2025, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) published this data brief which found that not all Medicare enrollees are continuing medication treatment for opioid use disorder (MOUD). Discontinuing MOUD increases the risk of relapse, overdose, and death—outcomes that have plagued the United States amid its decades-long opioid epidemic.
