Free On-Demand Presentation Courtesy of Huther Doyle

Presented on June 13, 2024

This OPEN MINDS Executive Roundtable was delivered on June 13, 2024 by Craig Johnson, Chief Operating Officer, and Maria S. Panitsidis, Senior Therapist at Huther Doyle. They presented their organization’s SHAPE model (structure, hope, accountability, progress, and enlightenment). The SHAPE model is an immediate re-entry model of services for justice-involved consumers and offers outpatient treatment and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for substance use disorder, mental health services for those with co-occurring disorders, and Health Home Care Management support to assist with the coordination of appropriate housing for consumers re-entering and/or requiring re-placement.

Mr. Johnson and Ms. Panitsidis also discussed how to address the challenges of community re-entry using best practice approaches, including intensive staff training, communication with relevant criminal justice entities, identification of appropriate consumers for the program, and assignment of those consumers to the best counselors and care managers.

Executive attendees of this session learned about:

  • Trends in the response to crime and criminal justice involved individuals.
  • Upgrades that are helpful to improve outcomes.
  • Challenges and solutions in implementing a program to address special needs.
